ABOUT RKD FOUNDATION

Rooted in Knowledge. Delivering Good.

Creating Spaces Where Knowledge Becomes Impact.

WHO WE ARE

Yayasan Ruang Karya Berdampak (RKD Foundation)

Yayasan Ruang Karya Berdampak (RKD Foundation) is an independent Indonesian nonprofit organization committed to advancing education, strengthening communities, and creating sustainable public impact through collaboration.

Founded on the belief that knowledge should never remain confined within classrooms or institutions, RKD transforms research, innovation, and lived experience into practical initiatives that improve people’s lives.

Our work bridges academia, government, civil society, industry, media, and local communities to co-create solutions that are evidence-based, culturally relevant, and socially meaningful.

Rather than focusing on isolated interventions, RKD develops integrated ecosystems where learning, innovation, humanitarian action, and civic participation reinforce one another.

Our Identity

RKD is more than a foundation. It is a collaborative platform. A knowledge network. A social innovation hub. A trusted partner.

  • A bridge connecting ideas with implementation.
  • People with institutions.
  • Research with public policy.
  • Technology with humanity.
  • Local wisdom with global knowledge.

What Makes RKD Different

Our approach is built upon five defining characteristics:

Knowledge-Driven

Every initiative begins with evidence, research, and continuous learning.

Community-Centered

Communities are not beneficiaries. They are partners.

Collaborative

We believe sustainable impact emerges through partnerships rather than individual achievements.

Future-Oriented

We prepare society to respond to technological, environmental, educational, and social transformation.

Impact-Focused

Success is measured by meaningful improvements in people’s lives, not merely by the number of activities conducted.

OUR HISTORY

A Journey From Knowledge To Impact

The story of RKD did not begin with legal documents. It began with a question: How can knowledge genuinely improve people’s lives?

In 2018, Indonesia experienced an unprecedented acceleration in digital transformation. Access to information expanded rapidly, but so did misinformation, online polarization, and unequal digital competencies. Recognizing that these challenges required more than technical solutions, a group of educators, communication practitioners, researchers, and community leaders initiated Klinik Digital.

Their mission was simple yet ambitious: To strengthen digital literacy while empowering people to become responsible creators, critical thinkers, and informed citizens. What began as a community-based educational initiative gradually expanded into a national collaborative movement.

Partnerships with universities, government institutions, civil society organizations, technology companies, schools, media organizations, and international networks enabled the initiative to reach increasingly diverse audiences. As the scope of collaboration widened, so did the realization that Indonesia needed more than one successful program. It needed an ecosystem capable of connecting knowledge, innovation, humanitarian values, and public service across multiple sectors.

This vision led to the establishment of Yayasan Ruang Karya Berdampak (RKD Foundation). Today, RKD serves as the institutional home for a growing ecosystem of initiatives dedicated to education, digital transformation, humanitarian action, research, leadership development, environmental sustainability, and community empowerment.

Our Philosophy: Why “Ruang Karya Berdampak”?

Our name is our philosophy. Every word reflects our purpose.

RUANG

A space is more than a location. It is an ecosystem where ideas can emerge, people can collaborate, differences become strengths, and innovation becomes possible. For RKD, space represents openness, inclusivity, dialogue, and lifelong learning. It is where communities discover that they are stronger together than apart.

KARYA

Ideas gain value only when they are translated into action. For RKD, karya represents every meaningful contribution created through knowledge:

Research
Innovation
Books
Technology
Education
Community programs
Public policy
Creative expression
Humanitarian service

BERDAMPAK

Impact is our ultimate measure of success. Not the number of meetings. Not the number of publications. Not the number of events. But whether people become more capable, communities become more resilient, institutions become more trusted, young people become more hopeful, knowledge becomes more accessible, and society becomes stronger. Every initiative should leave behind something that continues creating value long after the project itself has ended.

Our Vision

RKD envisions a future where every individual and every community has equitable opportunities to learn, collaborate, innovate, and contribute toward building a more resilient, inclusive, compassionate, and sustainable society.

Our Mission

Our mission is to transform knowledge into meaningful impact by creating collaborative ecosystems that strengthen people, communities, and institutions. We pursue this mission through six strategic commitments:

  1. Advance Education: We promote lifelong learning, digital literacy, vocational excellence, leadership development, and knowledge accessibility across generations.
  2. Strengthen Communities: Communities possess knowledge, resilience, and cultural wisdom. Our role is not to replace local capacity but to strengthen it through collaboration, empowerment, and mutual learning.
  3. Accelerate Social Innovation: We transform research findings into practical solutions through technology, entrepreneurship, creative communication, policy innovation, and community participation.
  4. Promote Humanitarian Values: Inspired by compassion, dignity, integrity, and public service, we contribute to humanitarian initiatives that protect vulnerable communities and strengthen social solidarity.
  5. Build Cross-sector Collaboration: Meaningful impact requires collaboration among academia, government, industry, civil society, media, philanthropy, and local communities. RKD serves as a trusted connector across these sectors.
  6. Generate Sustainable Public Impact: Every initiative should create measurable improvements that continue benefiting society long after projects are completed.
